ABOUT SEPTIC SYSTEM INSTALLATION
PK Construction Ltd is here to make the septic system installation process as smooth as possible, which is why we have prepared this little 3-step guide for you.
STEP 1:
HIRE A QUALIFIED PERSON
Peter Kalkman, the owner of PK Construction Ltd, is licenced to select and install the proper septic system for your lot. You will meet with him on your lot to discuss possible septic location options. This includes many variables:
-
the existence of water courses, neighbouring wells, and other factors such as slope and soil type
-
the number of bedrooms in the house and the corresponding required length of the septic field
-
the placement of the house, driveway, garage, well, and other buildings
-
the results of the perc test, which is comprised of digging a 5-foot-deep hole in order to study the different soil types present and determine if bedrock or the water table is present.
STEP 2:
APPLY FOR A PERMIT
A septic permit is required before you can get a building permit. To ensure it is done correctly, our licensed QP installer, Peter, will apply for the septic permit on your behalf and notify the Department of Environment and Climate Change 24 hours before the installation begins.
STEP 3:
INSTALLATION
A PK Construction Ltd septic installation involves Peter and his excavation team that includes a labourer, an operator, and a few truck drivers. The installation proceeds like so:
-
the septic tank is brought to the site and installed – a pumping chamber may be used, and various amounts of sand and stone will be hauled in
-
the pipe will be laid out and covered with a layer of septic stone, fabric, sand, and topsoil that is seeded
-
a filter is installed on the outlet of the tank to prevent solids from entering the bed
-
Peter completes a final inspection and submits it to the Department of Environment and Climate Change
